Today was the last full day on the island. It was a mix of work and play. Tomorrow morning we get on the plane back to Ohio.
The week’s activities left a lot to do. For one thing, when several rooms worth of people share meals (and coffee) in one unit, a lot of items (glasses, coffee cups, coffee makers etc.) end up in a different unit. Sorting all that out is its own challenge.
In addition to getting the rooms ready everyone needed to pack up their own things to go, and get clothes, passports, and other travel necessities ready.
Interspersed with these necessities were a couple of fun activities: exploring the shops, some pool and/or beach time and a little exploring by car. Despite all the work that needed done, it was a fun day.
In the evening we did a wrap up meeting: what did we do right, what didn’t work so well, what might we try to do in the future? We talked about this year’s auction and ways we might help GBCH. Then came a tearful moment when Jenny passed around a bag and had us each reach in. Inside were tracings of each of the children’s handprints, with the child’s name and in some cases (older kids) a personal note. We each took one or more to take home with us.
One question remains which came up during our final meeting, and we’ve decided to put it to a vote:
we thank you for your participation!
Thanks for following our travel blog. If the last couple days entries looked a little rougher than the rest of the week that may be because the laptop which was being used to compose the blog has been donated to GBCH and the last two posts have been made from a cel phone.
