Day 3 was our western/cowboy themed day at camp. There were cowboy themed activities along with the ever popular baseball. During music the kids learned about Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and the singing cowboys. People had fun with cowboy terminology and accents.
During circle time everyone was given a bandana, and while pretty much all the kids wore theirs, several clearly had a more pirate than cowboy vibe in the way they understood how a bandana was to be worn. But then, this is the Bahamas.
Our better understanding of the personalities and capabilities of the kids really showed through today. The disrupters were still disruptive and those who struggled still had struggles, but it was much better managed. Still chaos, but managed chaos, and isn’t that so much nicer? The kids can be a handful, and private times to sneak away to handle a call, swap out equipment, or even use the facilities were rare, but possible. A lost shoe here or there was not uncommon but always found eventually.
Afternoon announcement included a preview of tomorrow’s trip to the maritime museum and some general housekeeping. Before heading to the bus we all joined in a couple of rounds of Happy Trails, which the kids had learned in music.
In the evening we had a very special anniversary dinner for two of the FONA travelers who chose to spend that special day with us. To make it even more special, we learned that they had actually honeymooned in Grand Bahama. Congratulations Andy and Michelle!
